DESCRIPTION:
WW - Omega Speedmaster Professional Chronograph, Pre-Moon, ref 145.012-67 SP, manual wind, 42mm x 48mm to lug tips, 20mm lug width, original stainless steel screw back case, "DON" (Dot Over Ninety) black tachymetre bezel, original flat link Omega 1039 bracelet with 1/68 date code, original black step dial with applied silver Omega logo and luminous painted indices, three inset subregisters for minute recording, hour recording and subsidiary seconds, 17J, cal 321, s#26071428, triple signed. The Omega Speedmaster was chosen by NASA in 1965 after outperforming numerous other contenders in rigorous testing. They were first issued during the Gemini program using the older straight lug style 105.002. More Speedmasters were thereafter purchased, and starting with the Apollo program astronauts were being issued the "Professional" marked 105.012's in a beefier case with crown and pusher protectors as seen here. They remain flight qualified by NASA to this day and accompany astronauts to the ISS regularly. Modern interpretations of this watch are still in production.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, chronograph functions and resets properly, however the hour recorder wanders as is typical of 321 movements, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, hardly any oxide to steelwork; nearly flawless dial with evenly faded luminous indices; fine-plus hands with light paint loss at centers and darker discoloration to luminous paint; unpolished case shows light wear, hippocampus on case back is crisp in appearance, still retains most of its original factory finishing, several light dings on sides and lugs, DON bezel with numerous paint flecks as well as light bits knocked out of interior; later replacement Omega signed crown shows hardly any wear; good plastic crystal.
